What's small and extremely useful and it's not an Oompa Loompa.
I only started blogging during my first cycle tour to Italy. I remember sitting in my tent at night and typing onto the screen of my mobile. The process was slow, inaccurate and often frustrating as the screen would rotate as I tried to get comfortable. Also the output was limited, due to the screen size and me "numbing out". When I returned, I vowed that I needed to find a solution to my typing problem (also my numb nethers).
I visited Amazon and started looking at Bluetooth keyboards. I couldn't find a brand that I recognised, so did my usual course of action - best reviews. The EC technology keyboard had great ratings and also was only £25. It ticked all the boxes that I needed - small form factor (20cm x 3cm x 1cm approx) and good battery life.
It is a great bit of kit that I wouldn't be without when travelling. When folded out the keyboard is about the size of a ZX Spectrum (retro-reference), but has solid rather than rubbery keys. Your phone sits in the two slots at the back of the keyboard and it's angle can be varied by moving them in and out. I have a Pixel 2 and that fits well. I suspect all modern, monstrous phones would also be accommodated. The battery life seems great. It usually only needs charging once on a two-week trip (couple of hours typing each day). If I have one criticism it would be accessing some of the functions can be a bit of a mix of either "shift" or "fn" key. This can be slightly muddling, but is not a deal-breaker.
Since it's purchase, I've used the keyboard on numerous tours, trips and outings. I carry it in my rucksack, coat pocket, or panniers - ready to write. The quantity of my writing has increased at least twofold and the ability to typeset easily on the fly, is great. I would highly recommend this device to anyone who doesn't want to be lugging their laptop about with them. It will certainly be one of the first things in the bag on the next tour.
